Good Friday Walks

Good Friday Walks started in 1994 in Horningtoft when it was decided to 'beat the boundary' of the village, so on Good Friday 1st April 1994 eleven villagers braved the weather for the first half of the boundary walk.  Then on Rogation Sunday 8th May 1994 the second half of the village boundary was walked by eighteen villagers. Both routes took in as near as possible the village boundary by using the footpaths and permissions from local farmers.

Since then the annual village walk, on Good Friday has only missed four years, 2001 and 2002 because of Foot and Mouth restrictions, 2004 because the organiser was on holiday and 2020 because of Covid restrictions, however the organiser and her husband did walk. Photographs of the walkers are below, some years do not have photographs as they were either not taken or lost. The walk usually takes about two and a half hours, and there is a stop along the way for hot cross buns, a drink and a chat.

The map on the right is the route taken in 2017, a map of Horningtoft and all the Public Footpaths is in progress and will be published here soon.
